ECU 000970.31 – Engine Start Fault. John Deere System Advisory.

ECU 000970.31 (ECU 970.31)

Code: 000970.31

Shortcode: 970.31

Description:

Error code ECU 000970.31 is triggered when the enable signal from the Engine Interface Control (EIC) to the ECU is missing. As a result, the engine starts but does not continue to run. This fault can occur on tractors with or without an immobilizer and may be generated if a wrong key is used.

Reaction:

The ECU limits the engine to starting only 7 times in a row before preventing further starts until the malfunction is remedied. The vehicle may have limited or no function.

Recommendations:

  • Check Key Validity: Ensure that the correct key is used for the immobilizer. Using the wrong key can trigger this fault.
  • Inspect EIC and Wiring: Check the wiring and connectors between the EIC and the ECU for signs of damage, loose connections, or corrosion that could cause a loss of the enable signal.
  • Verify EIC Functionality: Ensure that the EIC is functioning correctly and sending the enable signal to the ECU.
  • Reset ECU and Immobilizer: Once the issue is resolved, use the immobilizer key to switch on the ignition, wait at least 1 second, then start the engine to clear the fault.
  • Replace Faulty Components: If any components are found to be defective, replace them to restore proper operation.

Note:

Maintaining the integrity of the enable signal from the EIC to the ECU is crucial for engine start and run functionality. Regular inspection and proper key usage are essential to avoid such issues. Addressing this fault promptly ensures the vehicle operates smoothly and prevents unnecessary downtime.
